Grace Meihaus.JPGMy name is Grace Meihaus and I am 20 years old.

I am a dreamer, a writer, a fighter and a lover of good food!

I was diagnosed with systemic scleroderma when I was 17 years old. It all started when I started to notice that my fingers became swollen and would turn purple when it got cold. This was not normal for me because I have been an athlete since I was in grade school. I started to become slower when it came to school it was hard for me to focus. Likewise, I was starting to feel very depressed and have anxiety problems. Not to mention I was becoming more stressed out about college and my social life. I did not know what people would think of me when I looked like this and acted differently. My friends started to ask me alot of questions when they saw my fingers and when I could not make it to certain events. They used to call me purple fingers because my fingers looked dead and it was weird to them. The doctors first thought it was lupus or lymes disease but I went to a rheumatologist and she said I had scleroderma. I had never heard of scloerderma before so it was totally new to me. I started to worry about if I could even go to college because i thought it might be too much for my body. However, I did everything to try to become healthier and I am currently at a small film school in San Diego, CA.

Now, I live everyday thinking that it is my last. I take everyday seriously and hope to eventually become a film producer.
