Join the Fight to Spread Scleroderma Awareness in June

How You Can Get Involved Online

scleroderma awareness header image 2.jpgFor this year’s viral campaign, we want the scleroderma community to contact some of the Web’s most influential users and tell them about scleroderma. Every day in June, we’d like you to post to a different individual’s Facebook profile page or send Tweets about the disease to help increase awareness. We’ve scheduled theme weeks such as “TV Personalities,” “Musicians” and “Movers/Shakers.” The combined "likes" on Facebook for these individuals is more than 325 million and on Twitter they have a combined total of nearly 290 million followers!

Other Ways to Get Involved Online

  • Allsup Post for a Purpose. Our friends at Allsup want to help increase health literacy by helping promote health organizations and encouraging the public to participate in health observances. Throughout June, Allsup will donate $1 (up to $1,000) for each of the first 1,000 people that “like” Allsup’s Facebook page [link] and post, “I fight scleroderma by _______.” Allsup has selected a different organization for each month of the year. At the end of 2013, the organization that receives the most “I fight…” posts on Allsup’s Facebook page will receive an additional $2,500.
  • Power of Us. Join scleroderma patient and blogger Karen Vasquez as she leads the charge of Twitter users to get the hashtag #scleroderma trending worldwide on the popular micro-blogging site on Monday, June 3. If you tweet, remember to include #scleroderma in your messages all day. To learn more, visit Karen’s blog “The Mighty Turtle” for more info.
  • Send a Letter to Your Local Media. It’s easy to send an email to your local media outlets (TV, radio, newspapers) from our website. Just enter your ZIP code online and select up to five different media outlets. Then, you can share your story and urge them to produce a story about scleroderma awareness this month. Get started at www.scleroderma.org/letter today!
