New Investigator Conference Nurtures Next Generation Scleroderma Researchers

Second event for investigators held as part of National Patient Education Conference

More than 600 people from 10 countries came to Anaheim to attend the 16th annual National Patient Education Conference last July. This year’s program was our largest to-date, featuring 79 presentations, with more than half offered for the first time.

Several pre-conference events occurred in advance of the general sessions. On Thursday, the second New Investigator Conference was held with 29 attendees. This important session is designed to strengthen the scleroderma research enterprise by nurturing the next generation of research leaders and to foster the emergence of a synergistic community.

The conference brings in new scleroderma investigators to present their research progress to senior investigators who facilitate interactions, provide constructive feedback and offer career mentoring in a supportive environment. “The mentorship this meeting provided is very unique and incredibly useful,” said Dr. Dong Li, of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

We are grateful to the Tri-State Chapter that partnered with the National Foundation to fund this event.
