The struggle is over..Heaven's New Angel-My Sister

For eight years my sister battled scleroderma. She fought a good fight until God called her home on April 29, 2014.

In 2006, my sister Stacey Alexander Pierite was diagnosed with scleroderma. She had the systemic type. As the years went by this disease started attacking different areas of her body. It came to a point where she was not able to work anymore, only able to walk a short distance, and needed oxygen. In 2011, she was evaluated in Houston at Methodist Hospital and was informed she needed a double lung transplant. Scleroderma had affected her lungs very bad as well as her esophagus making it hard for her to swallow her food. She ended up needing to be on oxygen 24hrs a day. Despite the pain, restless days and nights, and difficulty breathing, my sister never complained. Though it was hard receiving the news of needing a double lung transplant, she always smiled, remained in good spirit, and took each day as it came. Some days you would never think she was in pain but behind that beautiful smile was a lot of pain. She never received the lung transplant. Sadly, on the night of April 29, 2014 she passed away in the hospital due to this horrible disease. To all of those who are battling this disease, I know it hard and you never know what you will wake up feeling like but keep fighting, hang in there, and don't give up. Hold on to God's unchanging hand. I pray that someday soon a cure is found. Rest in Peace Stacey. We love you!!
