Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

winterThe U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) offers an energy assistance program to families who qualify. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, helps keep families safe during the brutal winter months by offering federally-funded assistance to help with:

  • Home energy bills
  • Energy crises
  • Weatherization and energy-related minor home repairs

Study Funded to Help Manage Fatigue and Sleep in People Living with Chronic Illness

sleep.jpgThe College of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst has been awarded a five-year $1.23 million grant from the National Institute of Nursing Research to investigate new technologies to help individuals living with chronic illness manage fatigue and impaired sleep.

The university's UManage Center to Build the Science of Symptom Self-Management will help individuals with chronic illness live healthier, more functional lives, said Cynthia Jacelon, professor of nursing and center director. "Nurse-led interdisciplinary teams will use emerging technologies being developed on the UMass Amherst campus to help manage symptoms affecting millions of individuals with chronic conditions that interfere with living life to the fullest."
